Van Tassel

WHITE COAT CONSEQUENCES is a new electonic collection of new music by Van Tassel, with Julie Licata and Andris Balins which includes the tune Come On Love.

"PC Van Tassel has released her new tune Come On Love.  With simple instrumentation, poppy vocals and a Blues twist, Come On Love avoids the pigeon-hole of a specific genre and has a unique sound that fans of Blues, Folk, and R&B will enjoy.  Giving a voice to hindsight and second chances, the lyrics decide to grab life by the horns, say yes, and see what happens.  With the release of Come On Love, PC Van Tassel reveals a unique voice to her songwriting that will have listeners coming back for more.”

About the reviewer: Zachary Larson is a professional touring guitarist and multi-instrumentalist with the Broadway musicals Finding Neverland and Escape To Margaritaville. His arrangements of orchestral music are published through Clear Note Publications.

Swedish House Mafia sell master recordings and publishing catalogs to Pophouse

Music Business Worldwide: News Alert
MBW’s Stat Of The Week is a series in which we highlight a single data point that deserves the attention of the global music industry. Stat Of the Week is supported by Cinq Music Group, a technology-driven record label, distribution, and rights management company.
In February, we told you that Pophouse, the Swedish entertainment company led by former Universal Music Sweden boss Per Sundin, was  planning to invest in music rights.Today, (March 29) the company has announced its entrance into the rights acquisition space by fully acquiring the master recordings and publishing catalogs of electronic music stars Swedish House Mafia (including their writer’s shares). The agreement, for an undisclosed sum, also includes the full acquisition of the masters and publishing of Axwell^Ingrosso. In addition, Pophouse says that it will form what it calls a "first-of-its-kind" joint venture with the group's members to develop and amplify the Swedish House Mafia brand worldwide.
Alongside today's acquisition news, Pophouse has also revealed that it's expanding the company's sights beyond Sweden, to the US and UK markets, and has appointed music industry veteran and former Capitol Music Group Chairman & CEO Steve Barnett to its Investment Advisory Committee.According to a media statement, Barnett has been "charged with leading the company’s targeted outreach with US and UK-based rights-holders to invest in and jointly build upon the legacies of iconic entertainment brands".Barnett's appointment at Pophouse comes just over after he announced his retirement (on December 31, 2020), following a 50-year career in the music business, including eight years at the helm of CMG.
Pophouse was formed in 2014 by ABBA member Björn Ulvaeus and EQT Founder and Chair of the EQT Board Conni Jonsson as a venture when the company created the world-renowned ABBA Museum in Stockholm. The company has since expanded into numerous other endeavors in Stockholm, Sweden, including: Space, claimed to be the largest gaming center in the world; Pippi at the Circus, a musical based on Astrid Lindgren character Pippi Longstocking, housed in the company’s Cirkus arena; and Nordic podcast house Perfect Day Media.Pophouse is also the lead investor behind the ABBA Voyage project at a custom-built arena in London, which will house a year-round ABBA Voyage concert starting in May this year, featuring avatars of the group accompanied by a 10-piece live band.Swedish House Mafia attract nearly 19 million listeners a month on Spotify, and have accumulated billions of combined streams and views. The group will release their debut studio album, Paradise Again, on April 15 through Republic Records. They recently had a hit with Sacrifice on The Weeknd’s new album, Dawn FM.The trio will embark on their Paradise Again World Tour in July, headlining major festivals and arena venues through November.
Steve Barnett said: ”I’ve known Per and Johan for many years, and have worked closely with them on so many endeavors on behalf of artists."I also had the pleasure of helping to relaunch the illustrious ABBA catalog in America at Capitol, and [ABBA member and Pophouse founder] Björn Ulvaeus is simply one of the most creative and forward-thinking artists and executives in the history of our business."I’m thrilled to be joining them and the entire Pophouse team as we forge new partnerships on behalf of artists in the US, UK and beyond.”Pophouse CEO Per Sundin added: ”Swedish House Mafia is a groundbreaking trio that brought club music to stadiums around the world, and they continue to pave the way in contemporary electronic and dance music."We are so excited to be partnering with them to tell that story for generations to come."While our landmark agreement with them involves the acquisition of the recordings and publishing of their back catalog, it is our first-of-its-kind joint venture with the band’s members that exemplifies the types of partnerships we are pursuing in our targeted expansion.”Swedish House Mafia said: “It feels great for us to partner up with a company like Pophouse that will do much more than simply acquire our creative work."Pophouse will invest funds, know-how and resources to bring our music into areas of entertainment where it hasn’t been before and for new audiences to discover our legacy.”Pophouse Head of Investments, Johan Lagerlöf, said: ”For Pophouse, an acquisition is just a starting point in the relationship."We are here to invest further in brand-building activities that amplify artist legacies to new audiences and develop new revenue streams as we’ve done so successfully in our other endeavors."Pophouse is not replacing any existing stakeholder, but is joining forces with artists’ existing teams and partners to grow the business for all.”

L.A-based Honua Music expands

MBW PARTNER PROMOTION
Having clocked up billions of streams, L.A-based Honua Music expands with new deals, promotions
L-R: Noah Gopen, Ron Moss, Axident
Los Angeles-headquartered Honua Music has made a significant impact in independent publishing over the past decade, with cuts on records that have cumulatively been streamed in the billions. The firm's writers include Honua's co-founder, Andreas Schuller (aka Axident), who has co-written/produced tracks at Honua for the likes of Jason Derulo (Wiggle), Justin Bieber (Company), Pitbull (Fireball), and many more.Schuller and the Honua team have been building out a roster of writers that also include Alida (Alesso/Katy Perry, Kylie Minogue/Dua Lipa), Leroy Clampitt (Madison Beer, Ashe, JLo, Justin Bieber), Gladius (Demi Lovato, Justin Bieber), Kriss & Smaaland (Alan Walker/Ava Max, Robin Schulz), Leo Arnarson from the production duo DAYSOF1993 (Lil Yachty, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Trippie Redd/Future), and more. Now, having recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, Honua is expanding via international deals and the promotion of key internal execs. Those execs include Noah Gopen, who joined Honua Music in 2018 and has recently been upped to President of the company.Gopen's management firm reps a handful of multi-platinum producers/writers. Some of these clients include dwilly (Sueco, Ty Dolla $ign, bbno$), WYATT (Diplo/Trippie Redd, iann dior), Just Roger (Shakira/Anuel AA, Danna Paola), TimFromTheHouse (Tove Lo, 5 Seconds of Summer), and more. This management arm sits within Honua alongside its core publishing company plus Honua's in-house Heaven's Creek Studios.Elsewhere, Honua has hired/promoted Roberto Garcia Caro as Senior Creative Director, and Samuel Boot to Creative Coordinator.Honua was co-founded in 2011 by Axident and Ron Moss. The latter exec previously worked for 17 years at Rondor/Universal Music Publishing Group, where he signed Avril Lavigne."Our company has a very unique structure which we believe benefits our writers immensely," commented Noah Gopen. "Axident started as a producer, produced hit records, and now develops writers and producers to do the same."It is fairly often that a producer gets stuck on an idea, or a writer doesn't know lyrically where to take a song, and having someone like Axident be able to guide them is crucial.""We've always been about building from the ground up," added Gopen. "Over the next decade, we plan on steady growth, signing a couple writers per year and expanding our internal creative team."Meanwhile, Honua recently inked an international partnership with Bucharest-headquartered Global Records, which was founded by Stefan Lucian in 2011, and generates annual revenues of around $17 million. The partnership will see the two companies collaborate on music – particularly music with an electronic bent – that has the potential to crossover in mainland Europe."Stefan has always been a close friend of [Honua]," explained Ron Moss."Axident and several of our other producers have produced many releases for INNA – who Stefan manages – including Cola Song ft. J Balvin."This [partnership] was a natural fit as Stefan's resources throughout Europe greatly help our creative process."In addition, Honua recently formed a separate partnership with fellow L.A-based music publisher Big Noise. As a result, Big Noise's Jess Furman – the firm's SVP of Sync – will now also handle sync licensing for Honua."We truly care about our writers' careers," commented Axident on Honua's strategy over the past decade. "So many of our signings didn't have a single cut when they were brought to our attention."We grind away, make sure everyone knows who our amazing next-up writers/producers are, and help lay the foundation for a long career with them side by side. We're boutique and plan to always stay that way."Looking to the future, Noah Gopen and Honua are big believers that blockchain technology will "one day interrupt the current model" for songwriters and publishers."We need it for the most transparent royalty collection and payouts," said Gopen. "When this happens we will be able to spend less time chasing money, fixing incorrect metadata, and ultimately receive more money from every dollar earned."Recent releases featuring Honua writers/producers include When I'm Gone by Alesso & Katy PerryReckless by Madison BeerIn Your Eyes by Robin SchulzOn My Way (Marry Me) by Jennifer Lopez, and Til Forever Falls Apart by Ashe & FINNEAS.
